Problem

Aiming to reflect the social phenomenon that people become more indifferent to others. I want to help solve this problem and promote people's communication with each other. I found that I and my classmates were on a busy schedule for the final assessment. We even had no time for a meal, queuing for express and food delivery. While, I also found that students in other departments had different schedules, or students in other departments had little take-home assignments so they had time to help us.

User Journey Map

Challenges international students face while cooking?

① Students struggle to choose a recipe

“ After two or three hours of struggling to follow a recipe, I was eventually tired and lost my focus.”

② Difficulty adapting to new food habits

” Almost two-thirds of freshman students gain weight. Sha said."American food is high in calories and is really fattening, so I feel like it would be better for me to regulate my calorie intake."

③ Difficult to replace ingredients

“ An international student from India, says that in many traditional Indian dishes like Biryani, "ghee," (Clarified butter) is used. Since it isn't available in most grocery stores in the U.S, he has to improvise with vegetable oil."

④ Expensive transportation to the grocery store

If students want to make Vietnamese food, they get several friends grocery shopping so they can split Uber fare to Hung Vuong Vietnamese Market in West Philadelphia. It's about 25 minutes to get there by car, so they try to buy as much as they can to avoid traveling back and forth often.

⑤ Getting the recipe right

Once they manage to secure a spot to cook and hunt down the proper ingredients, they need to get the recipe right. Vergne looks forward to cooking with other Puerto Ricans and learning from his suitemates new, authentic recipes.

⑥ Getting hurt while cooking

Before every meal, they research on the internet, call parents and friends for assistance, and continue experimenting. It takes a few skin burns to learn that they should not let water drip in a pan filled with hot oil.
